Obituary for William J. Viger

William J.  Viger
William Joseph Viger, age 73, of Hollywood Ave, Bronx, NY passed away on Sept 17, 2022 after a lengthy battle with heart disease.
William was born on Dec. 20, 1948 to George and Margaret Viger of Bronx, NY. William graduated from Commack High School in 1967, and later also studied at Hofstra University.
William soon after graduation joined the Navy, served aboard the USS Butte, and as a Seabee with the Great 58. During his enlistment he earned the National Defense Service Medal/Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
One of his first jobs back in the states was with Signal Communications, this led to a lifelong career as an Electrician specializing in fire alarms and nurse call systems, culminating in him at one point co-0wning and operating his own company. He also, later in life worked a short time as a plumber.
Military Organizations and Supporting his fellow Veterans has always been important to Bill. He was an active member of the American Legion, Samuel H. Young Post #620, holding the position of 2nd Vice Commander as well as a member of the AMVETS Post #38.
William had a love for his service dogs, first Sparky, followed by Magic.
William was predeceased by his Brother, George Viger, his Sister, Gerry Steiner and both his Parents. He is survived by his Loving Sister, Peggy Shinnick and her husband Edward. His former spouse, Susan Viger, Mother of their Children Paul Viger, his wife Charlene, Andrew Viger, his wife Katie. Audrey Appleyard, Mother of their Children Justin and Olivia Viger. His Loving Grandchildren Jake, Luke, Savannah, Lilly, Brooklyn, Austin and Myles. As well as many loving Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
The wake will be held on Wed. Sept. 21st from 3:00pm – 7:00pm in Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 E. Tremont Ave., Bronx, NY. A Mass Service will be held on Thurs., Sept. 22nd at 10:30am in Saint Benedict’s Catholic Church, 2969 Otis Ave., Bronx, NY. Interment to follow Mass at 1:30pm in Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion Post #620, 1530 Hutchinson River Pkwy., Bronx, NY 10461 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
