Obituary for Saverio A Verni

Saverio A Verni
Saverio A. “Sam” Verni passed away peacefully on August 16, 2020, in Ocala, Florida. He was born on July 30, 1931, in Manhattan, New York, and is survived by his wife, Nina (Lento), two sons, Thomas (Andrea) and Daniel (Naisha), four grand daughters, Gianna, Brianna, Daniella and Stephanie (Eric Van Doren), fourteen nieces and nephews, and twenty-two great nieces and nephews. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Verni, as well as his two brothers Frank and Cosmo (“Gus”), and his sister Carmela (Henn).

Sam was a veteran of the Korean War and proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 1456, in Throggs Neck since the early 1980s. Sam worked in a variety of jobs throughout the 1950s and early 1960s until he obtained his dream job with Pan American Airlines in September 1964. He worked his way up to Crew Chief, managing cargo for the jumbo jets, 707s and 747s, and retired on August 1, 1993, from Delta Airlines.

Sam enjoyed listening to opera and classic Italian songs, driving nice cars, and watching movies and boxing . . . but more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He had many stories that he would share throughout the years and was very proud of his family.

Sam and Nina moved to Ocala, Florida in 2002 to enjoy retirement and were married for over 53 years. We are all heart-broken by his passing and will miss him very much . . . we are thankful for all of the memories. He is in our thoughts and prayers, always and forever.
