Obituary for Rose Cantori

Rose Cantori
Rose Cantori, (nee Piccoli), passed peacefully in her Lincolndale home, on March 28.
She was born in Harlem in 1923 to Joseph and Mary Piccoli, who emigrated from Italy to New York in 1913. Three generations of the Piccoli-Cantori family lived and grew up on Chatterton Avenue in the Unionport section of the Bronx.
Rose was one of five siblings who predeceased her, in addition to her beloved husband Ceasar who died in 1992.
She is survived by her four children, Ronald, Susan, David, Chris, their spouses, and nine grand and great-grandchildren.
Rose was famous for her meatballs, icebox cake, and homemade pizza. An avid walker, she travelled the world with St. Joseph’s Travel Club. Other activities included running, bowling, and the senior Olympics, for which she won numerous medals and trophies. She enjoyed camping, boating, and water skiing, especially at Cape Cod. Highlights of her summers were the fabulous parties at the Lake Lincolndale Clubhouse, where she showed her super talented dancing skills. Rose was a volunteer Girl Scout leader, and an active parishioner at Holy Family Church.
Her work career began with the phone company in San Francisco, then went on to the family Italian grocery on White Plains Road, paraprofessional at Holy Family School, Supervisor for the Bronx Board of Elections, administrative aide at Bronx Community College, and a partner and driver of MAR-CAN Bus Company.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, 4-8pm, April 3, at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home on Tremont Avenue, with a noon Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at Holy Family Church in the Bronx. We will follow with a eulogy for Rose at Woolworth Chapel in Woodlawn Cemetery.
