Roman was always willing to help out.....when my son was moving into his 2nd floor apt on Dill Place, Roman came over to help. The sofa didn't fit up the stairs so the men decided to haul it up through the window. Roman went and got his ladder and some rope. Two men were on the roof, Roman was on the ladder and two men on the ground. The sofa was on it's way up to the second floor when Roman reached out to prevent it from hitting a window. He pushed it up and had it "balancing" on his head and said "look, no hands".... They got the sofa in and we laughed the entire time.
When my husband Al was ill, Roman was our "mystery shoveler". We would get snow and our walk woutd be mysteriously cleared. He never told me he did it, but one night I saw him out there in the bitter cold and he just nodded and smiled. Roman would also go out of his way to get Al his favorite pastrami, visit and talk. I won't forget his thoughtfulness.
We were neighbors for over 30 years and he will be missed. May he rest in peace
