Obituary for Richard Vanadio

Richard Vanadio
Richard Vanadio 06/18/1957~02/01/2022

Richard, known to most family and friends as “Rich or Richie” and as “Mr. V.” by many of his students, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the age of 64 years old.

Richie was born in Queens, NY to Alex & Anne Vanadio. He was the middle of 3 children: Kenny (Dottie) Vanadio and Janet (Ralph) Curcione

Having lived in the Bronx for sometime, they later moved to Suffern, NY where he graduated from the High school. Rich went on to attend the Berklee School of Music (composition) and studied other things before finishing a Masters in Music Education at Lehman College (CUNY) where he met his wife, Joy, in the Music Department.

Richie’s love for music, basketball and good food opened the door to many new friends over the years. Richie loved his family, and enjoyed many gatherings - most especially the Vanadio family reunions.
Richie’s mantra as of late was “Live a life of greatness..” Despite his battle with cancer, he continued to keep a strong faith in God. He had continuous support from his family and friends. He also enjoyed surrounding himself with positive people whose goals were to make a positive impact on those around them.
Richie was a music teacher in the Yonkers Board of Ed for over 20 years…his holiday concerts were always full of fun and some life lessons. He was adored by many of his students over the years.
Richie loved being a father to Alex (Laura), Greg & Ceci. He was also blessed to be “Poppy” to Layla, Natalie & Cadence.
Richie is also survived by his second father, Frank..
His nieces ~ Diane, Alana, & Jenna
His nephew, Bryan (Lynn) and grand-nephews Nathan & Myles
Richie was predeceased by his father, Alex and his brother, Kenny.
His love of life, fun-filled spirit, kindnesses and “Gentle Giant” demeanor will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at Living Word Community Church (Dumont, NJ), Schuyler Hill Funeral Home and St. Frances de Chantal (Throgs Neck).
