Marie was smart, determined, hard-working and independent. If she wanted to do something, she found a way, like traveling internationally - as a member of the first group of United States tourists allowed into the Soviet Union, or on an "if it's Tuesday this must be Belgium" tour, or on her weekly jaunts to Atlantic City. She was a talented artist and covered her walls with her beautiful portraits or landscapes. She passed on to her children her love of music, played piano at home every night, and listened to Saturday afternoon opera and classical music. In her later years, she kept herself busy crocheting, embroidering and hooking rugs. She also loved the challenge of crossword puzzles and 500 Rummy. As the family matriarch, at family get-togethers she loved sharing the family history. She was an inspiration to all of us.
Marie is survived by her children: Henry and his wife, Sharon, Marie Sandauer and her husband, Bruce, Susan Rivalsi, and Stephanie and her husband, John Garrone; her five grandchildren: Stephanie Gallo, Steven Rivalsi, Christopher Statkowski, Daniel Statkowski and Peter Coyle; and eight great-grandchildren: Carmine, Victoria and Stephanie Gallo, Isabella and Lucas Rivalsi and Emily, Ethan and Isabella Statkowski. She was very much loved and will be dearly missed.
