Obituary for Flavio Cavalli

Flavio Cavalli
Flavio Cavalli, age 89 passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Born in Alpicella, province of Genoa in Northern Italy, he emigrated to New York City in 1959 with his family. In his early years in America, he worked as a baker for Stella D’oro, and a custodian at Our Lady of Pompeii Church where he lived, in Manhattan’s Little Italy. In 1972, with his mother Teresa and brother Sergio, he opened the Venice Restaurant on Williamsbridge Road in the Bronx, which was a community favorite for 37 years. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to the Morris Park community where they have resided ever since.
Flavio was an active member of St. Clare’s Church, and supported various organizations in the community throughout his lifetime.

Flavio was the beloved husband of Eugenia Cavalli (Squeri), whom he was married to for 56 years. He was the proud father to Dennis and his wife Claire, and son Dimitri. He adored his three grandsons Dennis, Nicholas and Mark. He was pre-deceased by his loving brothers and sisters in-law, Dr. Gian Cavalli and wife Julianna, and Sergio Cavalli and wife Phyllis. He was a loving and generous uncle and great-uncle to his many nieces and nephews both in America and in Italy.

The family will receive family and friends at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 East Tremont Avenue Bronx, NY (www. schuylerhill.com), on Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 2:00-6:00 pm.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10:00 am at St. Clare of Assisi Church, 1027 Rhinelander Avenue, Bronx, NY. After mass, Flavio will fly to Italy, where he will be welcomed home by friends and family, and laid to rest in his hometown of Alpicella.
