Adela Arniella passed away Saturday, June 4th, 2022 at the Anne and Donald McGraw Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL surrounded by her four children Julio Arniella, Angela McGreal, Marilyn DeAlmeida, and Guedy Arniella.. She was 90 years old.
Adela was born in La Esperanza, Cuba and immigrated to NY in 1958 to start a new life with her husband Julio. She returned to school and received a degree in education from Mercy College and later earned a Master’s degree. She worked as an educator in the New York City Department of Education. As a Bilingual Coordinator in Washington Heights, Adela helped many immigrant families ensure their children received a quality education. She understood the importance of education and instilled the same principles in her children, saying “Knowledge is something no one can ever take away from you.”
Adela was extremely creative, loved arts and crafts and was an avid painter. She was an excellent cook and loved to prepare meals for anyone who came to visit. Adela enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She had a contagious smile and formed lasting relationships with everyone she met. Her generosity of spirit extended to anyone in need of help.

Adela was devoted to her three grandchildren, Meghan McGreal, Matthew McGreal, and Ryan McGreal Drummond. Nothing brought Adela more joy than spending time with them and Matthew and Ryan’s spouses, Melissa McGreal and Barett Drummond.

In recent years, Adela lived in Atlantic Beach, FL with her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Julio DeAlmeida who were devoted to her care. She was predeceased by her husband Julio Arniella and beloved son-in-law Edward McGreal. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Julio DeAlmeida, Ismael Lallave, and Monica Sanchez.

She will be dearly missed.
