John Howard Williamson
Obituary for Dr. John H Williamson

School psychologist and Bronx native John Howard Williamson, passed
away peacefully on March 23, 2024 at the age of 82. He leaves behind his
wife of 46 years, Ann, daughter Katie and son-in-law David Sutton, son
Matthew, granddaughters Eleanor and Alice, numerous nieces, nephews,
and great nieces and nephews as well as beloved friends.
The son of Margaret Donovan and Howard S. Williamson, John lived at
various times in Queens, Riveredge, New Jersey, Manhattan and
Scarsdale. Raised by his widowed dad, he grew up mainly in the
Woodlawn area of the Bronx. He attended St. Barnabas Elementary
School, and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School. He received a
BA in Psychology from City College where he was a member of the BTG
fraternity. After earning a PhD in School Psychology from St. John's
University in Queens, he completed post-graduate studies at the Fifth
Avenue Center in Manhattan. He spent 33 years as a school psychologist
and served as a member of the Committee on Special Education for the
Yonkers Public Schools. He supervised other psychologists there and
maintained a private practice in Manhattan for 26 years. He also taught
graduate courses at Iona University for two years. A resident of Scarsdale
for 25 years while they raised their family, John and his wife Ann later
retired to Silver Beach in Throgs Neck. There, they enjoyed entertaining
friends and family on their deck and watching spectacular sunsets over the
East River Sound.
John’s endless curiosity and penchant for travel led him and Ann to visit
all 50 states and dozens of countries on four continents. He loved driving
across the country, camping, cooking, reading, skiing, fishing, taking
photographs, getting together with friends and family and especially playing
golf. He enjoyed attending theater and Philharmonic performances,
Yankees, Knicks and Giants games, and exploring the diverse culinary
scene NYC has to offer. He cherished spending time with his friends,
children, grandchildren and extended family and enjoyed preparing annual
dinners filled with love and laughter. His own booming laugh could fill a
room.
Visitation will be at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 East Tremont Ave,
Bronx, NY, on Thursday, March 28, from 3:00 to 7:00pm. A funeral
procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 on Friday, March 29th for
the interment, which will be in the Catalpa section of Woodlawn Cemetery.
