Life Story for Fannie T. Giallorenzo

Fannie Giallorenzo (1918 – 2016)

Fannie Giallorenzo, 98, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2016 in Greenwich Hospital, surrounded by family. Fannie was born on October 18, 1918 in the Bronx, New York, the daughter of the late Annunziato and Margaret Lofaro. Fannie married August Giallorenzo in 1945, and they were together for 55 happy years in the Bronx until August’s death in July 2000.

Fannie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She was a devout Catholic, avid member of the Rosary Society at her parish, and for many years, could be seen counting the Sunday mass collection on Mondays for St. Frances de Chantal in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx. Fannie was known for her feisty personality and her tenacity in life, and loved her family and friends with great energy. She resided at Atria Rye Brook, NY for the last ten years of her life; her many caring friends, dining companions and card-playing partners meant so much to her. Fannie was a masterful cook – she even had two kitchens in her Bronx home! – enjoyed a life-long love of reading, and was a Jeopardy aficionado.

Fannie will be greatly missed by her son, Vincent and wife Nancy; son, Donald and wife Terry; and son, Peter and wife Susan; and her six grandchildren: Michael Giallorenzo (Jinka), Teresa Giallorenzo True (Adam), Christine McGoey (Matt), Paul Giallorenzo (Isa), Andrea McElroy (Kevin), and Justin Giallorenzo; and nine great-grandchildren: Evan Smith, Eamon Smith, Lilia True, Emma True, Rose McGoey, Eddy McGoey, August Giallorenzo, Meredith Giallorenzo and Kaitlyn McElroy. Fannie was loved by her many nieces and nephews. Fannie is pre-deceased by her six brothers: Dominick, Carl, Albert, Sam, Marcello and Frank.

A wake will be held on Saturday, December 3, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465. There will be a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, at St. Frances de Chantal Church, 190 Hollywood Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465, followed by burial at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.

Fannie’s family is grateful for the many caregivers who helped her over the last several years, including the staff at Atria Rye Brook and the Westchester Artificial Kidney Dialysis Clinic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Kidney Foundation.
