Roopnarine Poonai
(Kegs Poonai)
March 25, 1940 – August 8, 2018
Whether by design or by chance, to your family Poonai name
With hard work, diligence and perseverance, you brought fame
Having passed all your exams, a teacher you were, by the age of fifteen
To hundreds of students, something special, your name would come to mean
Well known as an ardent sportsman, husband, father and public speaker virtuoso
Lesser known was your love for masters like Mario Lanza and Caruso
Winning many trophies as a national debating champion, you did very well
Later, in Accounting and Criminology you also did excel
For education, you had an unquenched affinity
You were most comfortable in the setting of a university
Countless textbooks, coursework and professors you saw
But we all know that your lifelong passion was the pursuit of law
You will be missed for sure
But your memories will forever endure
