Obituary for Richard Richards

Richard E. Richards (Richie) was born on January 1, 1944, to Theodore Richards and Fanny Smith Richards. He was the third of five children, Jean, Margarette (Quentin), Richie, Robert and Theodore (Rosaline). As he matured, he was known for his sympathy, being fair, understanding, and always acting with a high degree of integrity. After his early education, he went on to graduate from Clinton High School in the Bronx, NY and then furthered his education at Howard University.

Over the course of his adult life, Richie worked occupations in several industries including cab driver, insurance agent, and finally a bus driver for the New York City MTA where he retired as a dispatcher from the Michael J. Quill Depot in Manhattan, NY following a long career.

In addition to spending time with his beautiful bride Delphine Paige to whom he wedded on October 3, 2004, Richie loved life and pursued many hobbies. Richie had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. During his down time, it was rare to find him without a book in his hand. He also enjoyed cooking and baking, reading, roller skating, bowling, pinochle, and chess as well as the arts, listening to jazz, enjoying the opera, and Broadway musicals. Richie kept physically active by walking daily with Shorty.

Richie was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Jean and Margarette, brother Robert, and son in love Terrence Brown.

He leaves to mourn him his wife Delphine Richards, his stepchildren Christopher, Crystal, and Jennifer; his child in love, Larytina (Tina) Brown-Smith (Paul), his nieces and nephews, Roxanne, Susanne, Earnest, Chad, Scott, Glen, Nicole, Shawn and Bryon, his grandchildren Ethan Smith, Pierce Smith, Joann Paige, Emmalynn Paige, and Emelia Paige. He also played a significant role in the lives of Rasheeda (Peppers) Pits and Bernice (Peppers) Jean-Baptiste who affectionately refer to him as Uncle Richie and will be remembered fondly by his close friends Theresa Brown, Wallace Peace, and Butch.

Richie’s life has come full circle. He was born on the first day of January and passed away on the last day of December. Such a full life. May he rest in perfect peace.
