Obituary for Norma V. Telesco

Norma Telesco, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 30, 2023. Born January 6, 1934 in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of the late Catherine Poggi-Saccaggi. Together with her late husband, Angelo “Sonny” Telesco, they had 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Norma had a lot of nicknames. Besides the obvious Mom, “Gram”, and “Norm”, when she played poker we called her Never Fold Norma! She always spoke her mind and when she gave unsolicited advice, we called her No Filter Norma! Gram was the biggest fan and Lucky Charm at all her grandkids’ sports games. One of her many memorable words of wisdom she gave to her granddaughters was, “Variety is the Spice of Life”.

Norma was a great dancer, amazing cook, garden enthusiast, a competitive scrabble player, and a “helluva hugger”. Her love for animals, birds, and all of nature passed on to her children and grandchildren. All the birds, cats, and squirrels of the Bronx gathered in her backyard to eat. Up until recently, she loved to spend her days staying active doing zumba and swimming at the Y, going for long walks, and doing yoga at Pelham Bay Park. Norma loved going to the beach on Long Island and soaking up the outdoors upstate in the mountains and on the lake with her family.

She is survived by her beloved lapdog Mushy, daughter Laura (Cookie) and her husband Bill, son Michael, daughter Linda, son Jimmy and his wife Margie, son John and his wife Danielle. Her grandchildren Amanda and her husband Frank, Christopher and his fiancée Jana, Kristina, Gregory, Juliana, and Matthew. Her great grandchildren Ty, Brady, and Trey.

A FABULOUS life so well lived and a woman so well loved. She was known for her sense of humor and her vibrant personality. When in doubt, your name was “Harry.” The life of the party and the queen of her family, who will be so terribly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Bronx Tails Cat Rescue via Venmo or Paypal. Bronx Tails Cat Rescue, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. They are volunteers, dedicated to improving the lives of local stray and feral cats in the Bronx and Harlem. They perform Trap-Neuter-Return of stray and feral cats living in managed colonies in our communities, provide medical care for sick and injured feral cats, and rescue friendly strays for adoption to forever homes.
