Obituary

Michael A. Fabrizi had the ability to uplift any room he walked into. This lifelong Bronx resident was always impeccably dressed, and his sharpness was no doubt influenced by his siblings. Michael was the second youngest of seven siblings raised by a 33-year-old widow (Cornelia, husband Serafino) and her mother. His two older sisters (Crucy and Pauline) helped raise him, and his four brothers (Chet, Sid, Gus and Zach) were all enlisted in the military at some point. The discussions on which branch of the military was the best were always very entertaining.
All his siblings called him Michael, but Mike became the name his friends and colleagues called him. Mike enjoyed a long career as a worldwide property insurance underwriter and executive for a highly respected insurance company. Through his career experiences, the knowledge he obtained was very impressive, including construction of landmark buildings, bridges and tunnels and also weather patterns and catastrophic storms, and the list goes on and on. He was truly a world of pertinent information. With that being said, Mike also kept it simple. The “old school common sense approach” was his mantra.
Mike was raised Catholic and remained a practicing Catholic throughout his life. The Fabrizi family helped found Our Lady of the Assumption Church, and Mike remained an active O.L.A. parishioner for his entire life. Mike enjoyed two long marriages (recently Patricia McCauley), having lost his first wife (Camilla Medora) to cancer, and raised a girl (Janet) and two boys (Michael and Stephen). Mike is also survived by three granddaughters known by the family as the “Fab Three” (Lauren, Julia and Lana). His devotion to his family was extraordinary, and he was always a protector, provider, educator and a loving presence.
Mike was an avid boater and instrumental in the establishment of the City Island Power & Sail Squadron, a division of the U.S. Power Squadron. The Power Squadron’s main responsibility is safe boating practice and Mike taught safe boating classes for many years. Mike had a captain’s license. He loved boating in the Long Island Sound and once navigated the Hudson River on a trip toward Lake Champlain. Mike was President of the South Minneford Yacht Club located on City Island. He also helped establish a neighborhood watch and was an early member of Country Club Civic Association.
Mike loved the holidays, including Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving. This self-proclaimed chef would always cook memorable meals with love and immense preparation. His hospitality was second to none and always complimented by the family and any occasional guest. Mike was a problem solver and always tried to make an informed decision. He could fix almost anything involving the house, car, or boat, and respected the knowledge and opinions of others.
Mike leaned on his faith during his multi-year battle with cancer (he died Sep. 30, 2020 at the age of 86) and had the ability to stay positive, always deflecting the conversation away from his situation and reassuring everyone he was okay.
Humble, strong, fair, kind, loving are words describing this amazing individual. Mike will be missed and always remembered on a daily basis by those who have survived him.

He was very active in the South Minneford Yacht Club, always giving and contributing his knowledge. He led a very active and responsible life always productively participating physically and mentally. His soul now rests in the hands of God.
