Obituary for Lillian M. Halloran

On October 9th, we lost our beautiful mother. She was strong, loving, and had an incredible sense of humor. She was our biggest cheerleader and a person we could always rely on. She is predeceased by her husband of fifty-five years, Edward, and survived by her three devoted children: Jennifer (husband, Philip), Edward, and Stephanie (husband, Hugh) and her three granddaughters Emily, Elsa, and Charlotte.

Lillian was born in the Bronx in 1944 to George and Maria Corrow. When she was 15 years old, she was a contestant in the Miss Teen-Age New York Pageant, and in the same year, she met our father, who was 17 at the time, at a high school dance. Their relationship spanned nearly sixty years of their being devoted to each other and our family. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2014, with their children, sons-in-law, and granddaughters as their “bridal” party. They were inseparable from the time they met until our father’s passing in 2019.

Our mother was incredibly devoted to raising us, and making sure that we had everything we needed for success in the world. From our first cooking lessons, to helping us dress for our first job interviews, not a detail was out of place when our mother was involved. She taught us how to be compassionate, and generous with our talents, and how to approach even the most difficult of situations with a sense of humor and a tenacious spirit.

Mama, as we called her, was tiny, but mighty. Although small in stature, Mama’s presence could be felt as she entered a room. She was also always known for her sense of style. Our mother would bring us to the beach club, two children and a baby in tow, carrying everything they needed, including a travel crib, wearing four-inch heels!

She had a great sense of humor and loved sharing jokes and stories with us and especially with her three granddaughters, who were the light of her life. She loved hearing about their adventures as they navigated their college years and loved teaching them our family recipes. She also gave her girls valuable advice and life lessons. She was always ready with a cup of tea and a hug should anyone need it.

Mama loved sharing her talents, especially in the form of her cooking, with everyone. We were incredibly spoiled by her, making our favorite things when we had difficult days. She started preparing for the holidays and everyone was welcome. You never left Lilli’s house hungry or without having a great time filled with laughter.

We love our mother more than any simple statement can say. She was devoted to us, and we to her. Our consolation is that she is again with our beloved father.

To honor our mother, we ask that donations be made to the American Stroke Association.
