Obituary for Kathleen Murphy

Kathleen Dyer Murphy was born in Manhattan on September 22, 1931. Her parents were James Dyer and Elizabeth Mangan Dyer, who were originally from County Roscommon in Ireland. Her siblings are James Dyer and the late Elizabeth (Sissy) Maloney. She grew up on West 109th Street between Columbus Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan. She attended Ascension Grammar School and St. Alphonsus Liguori High School in lower Manhattan. She worked in the banking field and as a teacher’s aide for P.S. 32, in the Bronx, for about twenty five years.
Kathleen married John Murphy on January 28, 1961. Kathleen and John resided in the Bronx with their children: Sean, Maureen (Mike) Arini, Patsy (Eddie) Weyhrauch, and Brendan. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband John, who passed away in May 1996. Beloved grandmother of Michael Arini, Colleen Arini and Kristin Weyhrauch. Beloved Aunt to her nieces and nephews.
She thoroughly enjoyed her Stratton Park neighborhood, in the Bronx, where she resided for over sixty years. While living there, she made cherished friends.
She enjoyed pursuing her Irish connections. She was the secretary for the County Roscommon Society of New York. Also, she was a member of the American Irish Teacher’s Association. She enjoyed attending their annual conferences.
