Obituary for Joseph Perna

Joseph Perna was a truly incredible man. He was beloved by those who knew him. Joseph grew up on the upper east side of Manhattan in the 1930s and then his family settled into the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx in the 1940s. Joseph was the second of 4 children and the son of hard working, proud Italian immigrants. He served in Korea during the war and was overjoyed to come home and be reunited with his family.

At a Catholic Church dance he met Mary, his sweetheart and life long love. They married and settled into Throggs Neck with their 4 children. He proudly served the City of New York as an FDNY fireman for 33 years in Hunts Point and Throggs Neck.

In his free time he loved teaching his sons how to work on cars, fix plumbing and do construction. Joe was the first person to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or friend in need. After having 3 sons his dream of having a little girl to dote on and adore had come true.

Joe was the perfect definition of a family man. His family was his entire world and he dedicated his life to being the most loving and caring husband, father, son, brother and grandfather imaginable. The world has truly lost a great man and he will be sorely missed by all.
