Condolence: Dr. Tanzilli was a man with a heart. For over thirty years, he treated my dear grandmother Mrs. Lillian Levey. Going out of his way to see to her comfort and always aiming to eliminate any physical discomfort she had been experiencing, my "Sasha" considered Dr. Tanzilli (who always insisted she call him "John") to be more than a highly expert periodontist - she considered him a friend.

After a long hiatus, I took my grandmother a week before Thanksgiving to the cozy old office in Pelham Bay. Her treatment was a veritable reunion with Dr. Tanzilli. As always, he showed her kindness, patience, and love.

John had planned to attend my mid-year graduation from a graduate program at Sarah Lawrence College; we would all convene at a nice kosher restaurant following the ceremony for a hearty dinner. But when we could not reach him at any of his numbers, we knew something was afoot. That treatment in November would be the last time we saw each other.

In addition to being a very fine periodontist, Dr. Tanzilli was also an accomplished artist. He painted intricate and detailed religious works, some of which graced his office. The sharing of cultures had become a pleasant part of our family's relationship with John. We respected him as a religious, believing Catholic and he showed genuine interest in our Jewish commitment; love and understanding permeated the dynamic of our friendship.

Dr. Tanzilli dearest, we love you and we miss you. May your beautiful soul rest in heaven.

With love from,

Asher H. Burstein
and
Mrs. Lillian Levey

Condolence: John, you were my brother Arthur's dear friend since high school, but also a friend (and eventually, dentist) of our family. I'll always remember your smile and kind manner. I'm sure you would have been my dentist, as well, had I remained in the area.
Rest in eternal peace.

Condolence: John was the epitome of kindness, gentleness, virtue and intellect. From the time I first met him, nearly 40 years ago, at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx to my recent visits to see him at Dr. Goldberg's Office in Stratford, he brought joy and laughter to every encounter we had. We enjoyed going on retreats together at the Passionist Center in Riverdale. His spirituality was deep; his faith was strong. I'm glad I had a chance to see him and pray with him before he died. He was a true friend. He will be sorely missed.
John, you are in our hearts and in our prayers.

Condolence: Dear Dr. T., I will miss you terribly. You were such a wonderful dentist and a beautiful human being. You helped me with my fear of the dentist. I will miss your humming and singing while you worked, and of course your funny jokes. I will miss bringing you flan and how much you enjoy it. RIP and keep you singing in heaven.
