Obituary for John Gerard Smith
John G. Smith, 64, of the Bronx, NY passed on into the presence of God and the glory of Heaven on Monday, March 13, 2023, at his home.
He is survived by his soulmate and partner of 27 years, Jacqueline Hurd, his daughter Carly Smith, her fiancé Peter Coyle, and her mother Jane.
His surviving siblings are Susan Aull, Sara Coder, Anne and Mike Simeone, Gregory Smith, sister-in-laws Patricia Smith (Edwin), Mary Smith (Charles), and his niece Meri Aull who helped tremendously with his ongoing healthcare, as well as many other nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Edwin T. and Phyllis Smith, brothers Edwin and Charles, sisters Margaret and Mary, and brother-in-law James Coder (Sara).
John was born and raised in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx. He attended and graduated from St. Raymond High School for Boys in 1976. John was a NYC Local 638 Steamfitter for 33 years, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Charles, father Edwin, and brothers Edwin and Charles. He loved his job and was blessed with meeting Jackie (also a steamfitter) on the job.
John was strong-willed, with an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. His greatest joys were the times he spent with his daughter Carly going to Pelham Bay Park to climb on the rocks, walking along the shoreline, seeing James Taylor in concert, or just sitting on the couch talking (Boy he loved that)! He loved collecting antiques but his all-time favorite thing to do was lay in his reclining chair on Sundays watching football all day, especially his favorite team the NY Giants. He also enjoyed stopping after work to have a couple of beers and laughs with friends.
We are extremely blessed to have had John in our lives, and we will continue the legacy of Faith that he has instilled in us all. He will always be deeply loved and missed.
Services for John were held at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home on March 17, 2023.
He is interred at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
