Obituary for Greg O'Hare

Greg O'Hare
It is with great sadness that our family announces the unexpected death of our beloved Greg, “Tio Gegy”. Greg returned to his heavenly home at the age of 41, on March 26, 2022, leaving behind his mother Nydia, twin brother Gabriel, sisters Rosely and Eileen, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, godchildren, additional extended family, and many dear work colleagues and friends.

Greg was born and raised in Queens, NY and worked for New York City’s Parks Department for over twenty years, most recently as a Parks Supervisor in the western Queens area. He greatly enjoyed working outdoors and was proud of planting more trees for a greener NYC. Greg was always travelling to different places to explore what the world had to offer, and he enjoyed hiking, snowboarding, and experiencing new things.

Greg was a gentle soul who, more than anything, made it a priority to be present in the lives of the people around him, spending as much time as he could with his family and friends and especially the children in his family. Greg brought to this world a rare ray of sunshine; always smiling regardless of the circumstances, always the first to crack a joke to lighten the mood, always the first to express humility and compassion, always the first to lend a hand, and always the first to give to others at his own expense. He brought instant joy to those that were fortunate enough to know him and will be so greatly missed. We are all mourning his loss, but Greg’s legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone he touched.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 1st, between 3-7pm, at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY.
A celebration of Greg´s Life will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at 2pm, at The Luminescence at Hunter´s Point Park South, 56th Avenue on Center Boulevard, Queens, NY.
To honor Greg’s life work, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations that will be applied towards planting trees in NYC Parks and dedicating a sitting bench at Hunter´s Point Park in Long Island City, which was Greg’s favorite park. Donations can be made by going directly to https://www.gofundme.com and searching for “Greg’s Tree and Bench Memorial Fund”.
