Obituary for Eugenia G. Cavalli

Eugenia “Gina” Cavalli, age 82 passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Born in Alpicella, province of Genoa in Northern Italy, she emigrated to New York City in 1964 to marry the boy down the block, and the love of her life, Flavio. Together they lived in Manhattan’s Little Italy in the parish of Our Lady of Pompeii. In 1972, she helped her husband and his family open the Venice Restaurant on Williamsbridge Road in the Bronx, which was a community favorite for 37 years. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Morris Park, where they raised their two sons, Dennis and Dimitri. Active members of St. Clare’s Church, her and her husband gave generously to the church, Boy Scouts, Little League organizations, as well as many other neighborhood organizations.

She was the loving and doting mother to Dennis (wife - Claire), and Dimitri. She continued to bestow her love and devotion on her three grandsons Dennis, Nicholas and Mark. Gina was predeceased by her husband Flavio, whom she was married to for 56 years, her parents Luigi and Marietta Squeri, and her sister Irene and husband Carletto, She is survived by her sister Marita and husband Elio, brother Federico and wife Lisena, who reside in Italy. She was the loving and generous aunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews, both here in America and in Italy.

The family will receive family and friends at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 East Tremont Avenue Bronx, NY (www. schuylerhill.com), on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 2:00-6:00 pm.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 10:00 am, at St. Clare of Assisi Church,1027 Rhinelander Avenue, Bronx, NY. After mass, Gina will be returned to Italy, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Flavio, in her hometown of Alpicella.
