Obituary

Anna E. Rischer
Annie was born in Scheindorf, Hungary, August 6, 1937, the eldest daughter of Martin and Helene Leili. She and her family, as well as her townspeople, made the exodus via wagon train from their village to Austria in 1944 during WWII and then emigrated to the United States in the early summer of 1950 to Woodside, Queens, New York. Annie attended high school until she was 16, then went to work as a telephone operator for the phone company in Manhattan. She married Rudolf Rischer in 1963 and started their family in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx.

Annie enjoyed gardening, needlework and cooking for her family, especially many delectable Hungarian and German dishes passed down to her by her mom from “the Old Country.” She loved hosting family gatherings and spending time with her close-knit extended family. Annie loved children and enjoyed babysitting once her own children were grown. She and her husband, Rudy, enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. Annie had an infectious smile and a warm heart: always compassionate, empathetic and helping others.

She will be sorely missed.

Annie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Rudy; her three daughters and their husbands, Dianne and Frank King, Donna and Stew Ross, and Denise and Angelo Poulos; her four grandchildren, Noelle, Nina, Alex and Makayla; her sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Stan Stimeck; her sister Maria Domonkos; her brother Matthias Leili; and five nieces and four nephews and their families.

The family extends many thanks and gratitude to Senior Helpers of New York for the wonderful home health aides who lovingly supported Annie during these past seven months, as well as the nurses from Hospice of New York and Visiting Nurse Services of New York.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
